Newspapers In Education (NIE) is an international program linking schools, sponsors and businesses. NIE provides students with an up-to-date “textbook” that promotes real world problem solving skills and life lessons. Through NIE, teachers use newspapers to enhance classroom lessons. The Daily Chronicle’s NIE program provides curriculum guides and lesson plans to help teachers successfully use the newspaper in their classrooms.
The Daily Chronicle is committed to the future of DeKalb county. NIE is part of that commitment. We actively seek sponsorship to ensure DeKalb county classrooms can utilize this great program free of charge.
• Classroom subscriptions for approximately 130 teachers and 4,500 students in DeKalb county each year.
• Sponsorship: We actively recruit corporate and individual sponsors to provide newspapers and curriculum to classrooms free of charge to the teachers and schools.
• Up-to-date, newspaper-based curriculum material for all subjects and grade levels. Teacher guides, activities, and other curriculum are always offered at no charge.
• Classroom speakers and facility tours for teachers and their students.
