In the six years I have served on the county board, we have worked diligently with county administration to successfully implement a balanced budget, that has allowed DeKalb County to serve the needs of the citizens without burdening them with tax increases. I will work to continue this proactive approach to the county budget in order to avoid reducing county services in the future.

The county board must set realistic budgets for each department and the county as a whole, and insist department heads stick to them. This can make for very difficult decisions, but they have to be made.If they are not doing it now, budget reviews during the year and multi year projection would be helpful to keep the board goal oriented. Zero based budgeting is also something the boardmight want to consider.

My ideas for reducing cost of county government would be for each committee to work with the department heads of their committee. These are the people who know where they can be more efficient to lower their cost.
